Careers in Motion – our twice a year student/alumni/industry professional engaged career fair was held May 1, 2018. 76 salon/spa/industry partners with 167 professionals were onsite to conduct interviews, watch technical demonstrations, and network with the current students and 24 alumni that were present. The event takes months of planning and preparation by the students. They create their industry friendly resumes, portfolios, and practice their technical skills so that they are ready to meet their potential employers.
Some current students and alumnus were interviewed and hired that day. Others scheduled interviews and have since been hired. It was a fun event and everyone was able to network and gain experience with others in the industry
Thank you to all the students, alumnus, industry professionals and partners, and staff who participated. We truly appreciate your dedication and support of this wonderful industry!

CACCS Student of the Year
International Salon and Spa Academy is proud to announce that our Cosmetology student, Jennifer Means, has been selected as the Colorado Association of Career Colleges and Schools’ Cosmetology Student of the Year!
Jennifer Means started at International Salon and Spa Academy on June 7, 2016. She came in with inspiration and a plan for her future. She felt that the Cosmetology industry was limitless, and that there were no boundaries or limitations within the industry.
She works hard and leads her fellow students by example. Jennifer shows leadership skills with many of our younger students. She also helps with tutoring students that are having trouble passing their written exams. If a student needs help with anything Jennifer is always there. Her academic and attendance performance is admirable.
Jennifer has won two scholarships while she has been with us. The first one was from Rosie Rewards and the second from Great Clips. She is popular with the clients and has built many client relationships.
Jennifer is in pursuit of happiness “because we know you have to love what you do”. She loves the beauty industry, and when you love what you do, the rest is easy.

Congratulations to Ms. Vickie Andres as CACCS Faculty Member of the Year. Each year, Colorado Association of Career Colleges and Schools selects one faculty member from hundreds of nominations to be awarded Faculty of the Year. This year International Salon and Spa Academy’s very own Ms. Vickie was chosen.
Vickie’s commitment to teaching and training her students is unsurpassed. Vickie took over as Director of our Esthetics program over 5 years ago. With hard work and determination she has created a program that is sought after by persons not only in the Colorado Springs area but across Colorado. Vickie continues her education every chance she gets. Vickie’s commitment was recognized by the owners of Image Skin Care Products. The owners of the company asked her how do you do it? Vickie replied “I love what I do and who I do it for”. Vickie’s career goals are simple: be the best and stay the best. Vickie strives for excellence in herself and her students daily. Vickie has taught students in our program as well as teaching over 30 instructors how to teach Esthetics. Vickie’s work is never done. Vickie not only works with our Estheticians, she works tirelessly with our Cosmetologists, Hairstylists, Barbers, and Nail Technicians.
Vickie represents the Academy in every education event she can find. Vickie’s students come back to visit with her and spend time with her. Vickie has two students who return to deliver education in her classroom on products that they now endorse and are sales representatives for. No task is too small or too big for Vickie. All any of the staff, students, or clients need to do is ask for her help and she is there for them. Vickie teaches us all how to work together, play together, and create a culture that is kind, considerate, and selfless.
Congratulations Ms. Vickie!
Congratulations to Emily Saffen and Kaitlyn Hardy who received first and second place in the Skills USA State Hairstyling competition on April 7. Both students are high school seniors in the ISSA Area Vocational Program. Everyone at ISSA is so proud of you and we know you worked very hard for this honor.
Kaitlyn will attend the Skills USA National Championships in July, accompanied by her instructor Ms. Penny. Great Clips, Salon Centric and Academy School District 20 are all helping sponsor Kaitlyn at nationals. We LOVE our industry partners and thank them so much for their support!
SkillsUSA State winner going to Nationals
The SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.
This is a multi-million-dollar event that occupies a space equivalent to 16 football fields. In 2015, there were more than 6,000 contestants in 100 separate events. Nearly 1,500 judges and contest organizers from labor and management make the national event possible.
The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.
